Gravenator (グレイブネイター Gureibuneitā) is a character in the Aozora's Adventure series.

Background[edit | edit source]

Gravenator was born 300 years in the past to a family of renowned vampire hunters. In his youth, Gravenator, then known under a different name, became a target for a vampire that had a vendetta with his mother and father. The vampire caught Gravenator off guard and proceeded to drain him from his neck before it was suddenly finished off with a silver knife lunge from his father. After his neck was wrapped up in bandages, Gravenator’s parents treated him completely differently from then on, approaching him in religious wrappings and layers of armor. Many of his questions on why his parents appeared to approach him with caution went with very few answers as his parents didn’t want to reveal the horrible truth. Gravenator’s parents ensured they still loved him though he was forbidden from leaving through the house's front gate and no one else was allowed inside. Only after showing that he did not undergo a complete transformation into a vampire two years later did his family relax on isolating Gravenator.

Gravenator’s growth into an adult was shunted by the bite, and after discovering the truth and realizing what was happening, Gravenator turned himself into the authorities against the wishes of his parents and was locked inside a custom-made, silver-lined black coffin when he was only 18. When he finally awoke three centuries later, Gravenator, now appearing middle-aged, destroyed the coffin's seal and rose slowly out of his slumber one night in the same graveyard he was “buried” in. He walked to his parents’ long-abandoned and condemned mansion and immediately made it his own, seeing what had happened to himself in an old, cracked mirror. He was now bigger, more muscular, had longer jet-black hair, and a set of sharp vampiric teeth. Remembering what had infected him at childhood and seeing the logs his mother and father left behind on rampant vampire attacks in their hometown, Gravenator repurposed many of their weapons and began to look through piles of discarded books to learn how to build and refine the tools and equipment he saw them use all those years ago.

Gravenator ventured out into the local towns surrounding his mansion, taken back by how much they changed during his slumber. He wandered around in the early evening, slowly, aimlessly, and silently, until midnight crossed. He had eyed up an old-fashioned weapons shop and was amazed at the selection, but was unable to make any purchases as he had no funds. A few nights later, a full moon occurred at Gravenator’s mansion, and a vampire similar to the one that attacked him years ago sneaked inside, hiding in the shadows while Gravenator was busy. Gravenator heard a sound emit elsewhere in the mansion and used his enhanced, vampiric senses to track down the creature. He was unable to keep up with the beast on foot, so he proceeded to use firearms laying around the house to weaken it until it was unable to fly. After almost an hour of fighting the creature, Gravenator finished it off with a deep bite into the neck until it was left completely immobile, only to grow sick and vomit the excess blood from his mouth outside his front door. The next day, still feeling drowsy from the battle, Gravenator presented the kill in town and received a hefty bounty.

With money in hand, Gravenator further scavenged the areas around his mansion and various towns when nightfall hit. He purchased red-tinted sunglasses and retro headphones and gathered weapons, scrap metal, and spare parts from the weapon shop. With the help of some newer reference manuals and guidance from the owner of the weapon shop, Gravenator turned the basement of his mansion into a workshop and forged together a pair of powerful hand cannons with asymmetrical designs and specialized ammunition. Gravenator would end his experiments by modifying his old, destroyed coffin into a giant weapon only a man his own strength could carry. After completing his signature weapons and finalizing his look, Gravenator began offering secretive services across Europe as a bounty hunter specializing in hunting the undead and other vile creatures of the night, with the goal of creating new weapons and hunting gear.

Powers and Abilities[edit | edit source]

Gravenator is a very large figure with a muscular frame, standing almost seven feet tall. He has quick reflexes and an abnormally large amount of stamina, but cannot run quickly or jump reliably due to his sheer size. Thanks to his nature as a half-vampire, Gravenator’s body slowly heals any wounds it receives and is capable of surviving far greater punishment than a normal human being. Gravenator’s equipment offers him further protection, as he wears a metal full-form chest piece originally designed to protect its wearer from lethal bites across the neck. Despite his unrivaled endurance, Gravenator is a sluggish physical fighter despite the power of his punches, kicks, and lunges, and can succumb to repeated attacks and wear out over time, pushing his body to its limits.

Gravenator dual-wields a pair of custom-designed handguns. The ammunition for the two guns is custom-made “bloodstone pellets” specifically tailored to kill zombies, vampires and other creatures that hunt humans or feast on human blood and flesh. The contents of the pellets are very valuable, including silver powder and a vile mixture that spreads a poison to suppress a monster’s cravings for human blood and flesh. As they are commonly used in the dark, they are made to emit a bright, red light when shot, similar to a flare. Against humans, the bullets function similarly to a regular bullet, as they were extensively tested to have their poison effects only work on non-human monsters or the undead.

Gravenator’s signature tool is a large, extensively modified black coffin with steel lining named the Grave Digger.

Trivia[edit | edit source]
