Hades (ハデス, Hadesu) is a character in the Aozora's Adventure series.
Background[edit | edit source]
Hades is a physical god from Greece and the god of the underworld, having received the privilege to rule over it after battling in a large ancient war. Despite some concerns, he ultimately accepted his destiny and descended to rule the depths of the underworld and make sure no soul that made its way into the Underworld escaped.
At some point in his late 20’s, Hades noticed his body had haled growth, assuming it was a result of the souls’ immortality rubbing off onto him. He remained down in the underworld alone and isolated for many, many years, finding himself growing frustratingly bored. He began to aggressively hunt corrupted souls as a sport and manifesting their energy into a shadowy black cloth with a hood worn as a robe. This cloth had the ability to transform into various tools and weapons, including Hades’ signature bident that would accompany him for many fights since.
As years passed, people feared and dreaded Hades as they heard of his legacy and lifestyle representing death and darkness. Hades could care less about what the public saw him as since it was part of his job. One day, Hercules payed the man a visit to borrow something and proposed a friendly sparring match in the meantime. It was with this match that Hades demonstrated the full power of his shadow cloth to Hercules. The two parted ways afterwards with Hades resuming his duties, but he became more curious of the outside world.
Using the shadow cloth’s powers, he harvested more souls to create beasts that would guard the underworld and prevent anything from entering or escaping during his absence. By this point, Hades had lived for hundreds of years and his negative reputation started to subdue, especially after the battle with Hercules which ended on good terms- but there were still many people that perceived Hades as a being of evil. Even more years for the man passed, and Hades decided to update his appearance for a new era after seeing Hercules and several other still-living gods do the same. Harvesting even more souls, he upgraded the robe with thicker cloth, transforming it into a black leather coat, and went to the surface to collaborate on a black full body suit (with a black eye-mask to accompany it) with professional weapon designers. This caused the tools and weapons the cloth could change into to receive a new, high-end look with improved effectiveness. To this day, Hades continues to guard the underworld with all his might, fighting the undead spirits and creating monsters from harvested souls to do the work whenever he leaves.
Personality[edit | edit source]
Hades is a very rough person, displaying a neutral but otherwise stoic and determined look. He has no interest in general socialization and prefers to do his job without interruption unless he’s the one calling the shots. Being alone and hunting loose and corrupted souls both in his home realm and the surface world is what drives him the most, and he rarely, if ever, seeks some form of companionship or assistance as he claims to have enough power to do it himself.
Hades takes his job very seriously as he dislikes the concept of failure and is filled with anger and frustration if he’s slowed down, falls into a disagreement, prevented from doing his job, or if a soul escapes form within his reach. He only shows absolute respect for a very small batch of people, most noticeably those that offer to help him track down or capture a soul in the surface world without letting him down. These are the kinds of people he enjoys and appreciates being with since they make his life less lonely and help him out with the one task he sets out to do more than anything else. Hades gives these people a confident, somewhat cocky smile as a way of saying thanks, knowing that not everyone sees his existence as an essence of complete evil and destruction.
Powers and Abilities[edit | edit source]
Hades has above-average strength, durability, and dexterity brought by his muscular build and the lightness of his bodysuit. Even then, he is not invincible, as excessive strong attacks will still knock him out. The leather coat Hades wears is bulletproof, being able to withstand many direct attacks as long as it’s worn. However, the coat is reasonably heavy, impacting Hades’ running speed and ability to fight back while wearing it. The coat also includes a secondary function in giving Hades the ability to glide down from high surfaces. If the coat is damaged or lost, it reforms itself on Hades' back.
Hades can manipulate the power of the souls infused inside the coat to alter its shape and density and transform it into a bident, a shield with spiked edges, or an armor enhancement for his suit if he desires to fight with direct attacks or improved mobility. These forms give different advantages and disadvantages based on which Hades opts for, and they can be changed almost on the fly. With more power, Hades’ current weapon begins to emit purple flames- representing the souls he’s harvested from the underworld powering his coat burning up. When burning, both of Hades’ main weapons can fire a projectile composed of dark energy and fire, most commonly a dual laser blade formed from the tip of the bident or a circular wave from the shield. If the coat is in armor mode, the fire erupts from Hades’ arms instead, and punching forwards with his hands open slings fireballs forwards.
If Hades is in possession of high number of souls, he can fabricate them and form them into ghoulish monsters of various sizes to accompany him in battle, all sporting high intelligence and intellect and following their master’s orders to the best of their abilities. As the souls eventually start to crumple apart, the monsters gradually get weaker over time until they disintegrate or are defeated. Hades can instantly recall any of his personal monsters by touching them, causing them to fade away back into energy absorbed by his coat. In his home domain in the underworld, Hades’ creations are larger and much more powerful as soul energy is more readily available for use and in greater amounts.
