Ruby (ルビー, Rubī) is a character in the Aozora's Adventure series.
Background[edit | edit source]
Ruby is a traveling, professionally-ranked British mercenary for hire journeying through Japan, the United States, and her home land in the United Kingdom to satisfy contracts and build up her profits. Ruby’s talent of using many tools contained inside a steel briefcase adorned with her personal emblem made her a desirable and versatile businesswoman for many clients. She keeps her social life low to focus on her assigned tasks and avoid drawing in public attention, only revealing herself to her clients or targets while showing her badge and announcing her rank.
Ruby treats her role as a mercenary as a serious business, training endlessly to keep her skills with her weapons and her physical prowess as efficient as possible. Her signature tools include her personalized handgun held within a holster on her waistline, a chain whip with a spearhead at the end, and other firearms and gadgets she chooses based on her desired target(s). Her reasoning for using various different weapons is to give herself a unique edge over other mercenaries that rely on only a small number of tools and present a sense of mystery and unpredictability to her targets.
Personality[edit | edit source]
Ruby is a mature and knowledgable woman. She sells herself as a very focused individual committed to her work and is very formal and direct with her clients in her speech.
Despite Ruby's high-class demeanor and professionalism, she is feared by some for her wild side triggered when engaging in deep combat, revealing her to be a very reckless, yet confident brawler. Ruby does not let her swift, aggressive fighting style ultimately consume her and impact her career, even in the cases where it loses her future clients.
Powers and Abilities[edit | edit source]
Ruby has above-average agility and a moderate amount of muscle in her arms, chest, and legs. She is very experienced in acrobatics and close-quarters combat and fights with various offensive and bait-and-switch tactics. She was trained to have a quick reaction time to oncoming attacks and better read when she is targeted since her build cannot withstand repeated heavy hits.
Ruby’s signature weapons are stored and neatly organized inside a large aluminum briefcase lined with a bulletproof shielding on the inside, each tagged with Ruby’s personal emblem and/or signature. Inside the briefcase is two revolvers, a rifle, and a chain whip with a iron on one end and a spear attachment in the shape of an arrow on the other. The revolvers are lightweight and suitable for portability, while the rifle requires an additional strap and steadier aim but is much more powerful. Tucked away in her outfit is a set of sharpened, custom-printed metal business cards with her signature logo and contact information. The business cards are used as a last resort tool if her other weapons are unusable, and are sharp enough to serve as a bladed weapon when swung fiercely or thrown.
The chain whip is Ruby’s signature weapon, serving as a close range, long range, and traversal tool rolled into a single weapon. The arrowhead of the chain whip has four blades on each side, and the iron grip is designed to be gripped at any strength without breaking down over time or putting strain on her hands. The chain whip can reach several feet in front of her when swung at full force. The whip’s range can be modified for shorter but quicker swings if part of the chain link is gripped before initiating the swing forwards. The chain link can wrap targets with an accurate swing and pull targets towards Ruby, closing in the distance between her and her opponent. If they are larger or heavier than her, Ruby tugs on the chain with a large amount of force to lunge herself forwards, driving herself into her target with a lunging kick aimed at their head or stomach.
The chain whip’s spear is very durable and can function as a hook to give Ruby extra power to pull on an object, reach a high ledge, or cross a large gap.
