Huolongxue (火龍血) is a character in the Aozora's Adventure series.

Background[edit | edit source]

Huolongxue was born and raised in a small family alongside his older brother Zhuguan. The family would travel around the local area to witness live firework shows, enticing Zhuguan and mildly intriguing Huolongxue. Their grandmother would often notice that Zhuguan would spend extra time with his grandfather, playing with fireworks and bonding. In return, she would often try to spend time with the more rambunctious grandchild; Huolongxue. They would spends their afternoons bonding while his grandmother would tell him stories of back before she met her husband. These stories would excite Huolongxue, due to them being tales of a wild life filled with daring adventures and roguish heists. Each time they met up, Huolongxue would be on the edge of his seat with anticipation, getting more and more interested with every word. After a while, his grandmother decided to share her last big job before she settled down with his grandfather, giving up her minor life of crime for love. Once the story ended, she dug up an old memoir from the final heist and and presented it to Huolongxue as a gift. The gift was a red crystalline flask, noting that it was from her final heist and told him to keep it with him always.

Huolongxue took the flask home and placed it on a shelf in his room, only to take it off and investigate it minutes later. Feeling thirsty, he twisted the flask's lid off and drank the blood-red liquid inside until it was empty, being grossed out at its bitter taste. His stomach immediately began to turn, so he tried to lay down and sleep it off, only to wake up from the intense heat. He shot awake, still groggy but struck with adrenaline, only to see the house in flames and his mother calling for him to wake up and get out right away. He rushed out of the house to meet with his family and watch their house burn, the blame being put on Zhuguan due to his love for fireworks. Only while walking away with the adrenaline wearing off does Huolongxue start to feel better with his stomach, he let out a small spark of flame from his hindquarters. With nowhere else to go, Huolongxue and his family were forced to stay with their grandparents. Getting situated into their new shared room, Huolongxue would tease his brother time and time again over his inability to be anywhere near fireworks and supposedly burning their house down. As time passed and the fire incident became less of a fresh wound, the boys would grow apart, arguing and starting fights due to Zhuguan's newfound sense of justice conflicting with Huolongxue's cocky and edgy personality. To escape having to be around his brother, Huolongxue would spend extended times out in town, trying to figure out what powers he gained from the flask and how to use them.

One evening, at the age of 16, Huolongxue would return home to find that his brother had left to work with a traveling circus. In addition, his grandmother would ask what had happened to the flask that she gave him all those years ago, wondering if somehow he still had it on his hands after the fire. Huolongxue confessed that he drank the liquid, saying it tasted horrid. She would panic, questioning when and why he would do such a thing. "I was thirsty!" Huolongxue said, irritated. "I thought you would understand a troublesome kid like me" with sarcasm. At that exact moment, Huolongxue, while leaning over, would suddenly blast a small burst of fiery gas from his backside. His parents would see the fire emerging from his buttocks and immediately piece together who exactly started the fire eight years ago. Filled with rage, Huolongxue's parents bellowed out in harmony, "GET. OUT. NOW... you liar!" His grandmother protested but was outvoted by her son, husband, and daughter-in-law, the former claiming "No more! He has done enough damage to this family and has dishonored us... and Zhuguan!" With no other option, Huolongxue spat an ember at his father in rage and stormed out of the house, walking down the old stone road into paths unknown. Traveling alone and with nowhere to go, Huolongxue decided to try and find his brother. The only issue was he had no idea of his whereabouts--the only clue he had was that he was in the northern country region. His powers would continue to develop in his journey to find his brother, learning how to do more damage and become more dangerous. Taking on a life of crime like his grandmother, he would hone his "Spitfire Dragon" powers to leave entire buildings scorched and in disarray, looting from them and assembling his now signature fit. No matter how many times he followed a lead or trying to go to the circus Zhuguan used to work at, he could not find his brother. Just as he was going to get a drink after his recent failure, he heard rumors that "someone that was working at the circus decided to return to their family a week ago". Huolongxue put the pieces together and sprinted back to his home town at full speed, taking drinking breaks at different bars to keep his strength lifted.

Walking towards the gate of the nearby town by their grandparents' home, Huolongxue, lightly intoxicated and juggling fireballs, saw a large muscular man talking to a villager about a "Spitfire Dragon" causing trouble across China. “Huolongxue…? What happened to you?” The smoke cleared around this figure as it turned to face Huolongxue, revealing itself as his brother Zhuguan, back from a year-long trip to the circus. “Oh, so many things, old friend." Huolongxue replied. "But you’re looking at the new… and improved… Huolongxue~!” The two muscle men asked each other questions until Huolongxue cockily uttered “Oh… By the way, I know a secret… an absolute BLAST of a secret… Turns out, old brother, you were none the wiser to what actually happened that night: It was actually I, Huolongxue, that torched that old garden shed we lived in, It wasn’t worthy enough for someone of MY greatness!” In an instant, Zhuguan threw a screaming punch at him at full force, only for Huolongxue to use his fire spit powers and heightened agility to repel the attack. Huolongxue went on the offense, running circles around his brother while scorching him several times before dropping a powerful spit bomb from his mouth right next to him that would explode and launch him into the road unconscious. Huolongxue cackled at his brother and stormed off, disappearing into the smoke as townsfolk and doctors rushed to Zhuguan's aid.

Huolongxue would continue to wander China, honing his spitfire dragon powers to become stronger and prepare for his future bouts with his brother, while continuing his routine in burning down buildings to loot from them and entering tournaments to make a name for himself and claim even bigger amounts of prize money.

Powers and Abilities[edit | edit source]

Huolongxue is a burly man with a muscular figure. With his innate magic, Huolongxue utilizes body modifications to be built in such a way that his durability and his dexterity becomes empowered, giving him strong defenses and heightened mobility. The powers that would develop in Huolongxue would improve his form even further, giving his skin a rough and scaly texture that is resistent to explosives, heat, and pressure. His legs and stamina would also see improvement, allowing him to run at full speed for extended periods of time, make powerful leaps, and survive big falls with no injury from the fall.

To fight, Huolongxue uses his magic to form sharpened dragon claws on each of his fingers, sealing them in purple scales and sunset-orange claws matching the dragon armor he wears on his body. The claws are used for shredding and piercing targets in close range, and are designed to work with his body’s strong defenses and the speed in which he is able to swing around his arms and react to oncoming attacks. The scales that grow over his knuckles can also be used to punch away projectiles, completely reflecting or bursting them in one shot. When the claws are no longer needed, Huolongxue sheds the claws or explodes them on the spot, launching the sunset-colored claws out as a surprise projectile attack. When using the latter, he has a habit of aiming the claw he is about to explode like a gun, gripping the wrist with his other arm and taking the stance of a sniper to give him better aim.

Huolongxue’s signature attacks are his fiery breath and his highly combustable “Spitfire” saliva. For his fire breath, he takes in large amounts of air into his lungs and mouth and expel a stream of flame infused with his magic, giving the fire a small purplish tint. If infused with alcohol, the fire breath attack can take on different properties based on how much is inside Huolongxue’s throat, becoming either a widened fan of fire that incinerates in a cone shape at the sacrifice of distance, or a concentrated beam of light and heat with a temperature high enough that it can create an immediate hole in steel. The flame breath’s effectiveness is reduced in rain and in low temperatures, forcing Huolongxue to use other attacks.

For his Spitfire technique, Huolongxue gathers up saliva in his mouth and spits a sequence of small droplets with a faint red-orange glow in rapid succession. Each droplet of saliva detonates on contact, making an approximate 1-foot explosion radius. While using this attack, Huolongxue will perform gun gestures with both of his hands, recoiling them back with each spit he takes to imitate a gun firing. Alcohol will also affect the Spitfire technique, empowering it to produce stronger spitballs with roughly double the blast strength. Several other techniques are accessible through his magic: Drinking booze and wiping the excess from his lips around his eyes lets him see the body temperature and heat coming from living creatures, allowing him to track them from longer distances. While building up saliva in his mouth, he can choose to drop a larger droplet of “Spit Mine” saliva directly onto the ground in front of where he stands, detonating it later on by snapping his fingers and causing the drop to implode into a bigger explosion within a five-minute window. Due to the extensive reliance on his own saliva and the intake of alcoholic drinks to attack and enhance his powers respectively, Huolongxue can wear out the amount of saliva he produces or become too intoxicated to continue fighting, weakening his overall strength or putting him out of the fight altogether.
