Fujin (風神) is a character in the Aozora's Adventure series.

Background[edit | edit source]

Unlike his brother Raijin, Fujin has no recount of his past, simply going on with his brother’s claims that he is a resurrection of the Japanese god of wind he shares his name with, including his wind-based abilities. While ashamed to admit it, he believes Raijin’s claims may be ambiguously true, having compared his wind sack to the one held by the ancient wind god statues present throughout Japan and further studying the destructive powers he would wield, many of which matched Fujin’s own.

Fujin and Raijin made their home inside an old Japanese shrine guarded by statues of the original Raijin and Fujin beside the front door. To Fujin’s dismay, Raijin would venture out and make public appearances and spread his theories on the brothers being resurrections of the gods of thunder and wind- leading to their popularity and recognition soaring. To keep Raijin from causing trouble and taking advantage of their newfound recognition, Fujin began accompanying him, hoping to find some answers to their existence and locate the sources of their legendary powers.

During a trip to China, Fujin and Raijin would meet a young teenage boy named Nezha who possessed mythical powers of his own. He would grow an instant liking to the two foreigners, Raijin in particular.

Powers and Abilities[edit | edit source]

Fujin is a large man with a muscular frame and very high physical strength. He is able to lift many times his own weight and reliably fight in close quarters with quick, precise strikes as fast as wind. Fujin’s signature weapon of choice is an ancient war cannon with a large bag of air tied onto it. When the lever on the cannon is pulled, it fires a spinning ball of compressed wind. Wind balls travel at high speeds and explode upon impact, releasing blasts of wind in all directions. The strength of a wind ball is based on how much the launcher lever is pulled back, and at maximum strength, the wind ball becomes powerful enough to demolish structures and launch away any object or person not bound to the ground.

The bag of wind attached to Fujin’s cannon is tied on one end to focus all of its wind into the cannon, but Fujin can channel the wind through the tied end for other attacks. By swiping the air with one or both of his hands in a chopping gesture, Fujin can form crescent-shaped blades of wind that are safer to use and are less likely to cause environmental damage compared to the wind balls. Besides serving as a projectile, Fujin can use wind to create and ride brief but powerful gusts of wind to boost his movement speed, increase his altitude during jumps, and push back his enemies. Fujin’s strongest wind magic is the ability to spawn powerful typhoons to ravage his surroundings, though its high wind requirement, large amount of time needed to charge up, and its sheer destructive force forces the move to be used only in dire situations.

Fujin can spawn clouds underneath his feet and rise himself up several hundred miles off the surface of the planet. The clouds are dense enough to support the combined weight of Fujin and his war cannon, allowing Fujin to use the clouds as a makeshift vehicle by surfing them across the sky at blistering speeds.
