Raijin (雷神) is a character in the Aozora's Adventure series.

Background[edit | edit source]

Raijin’s origins are shrouded in mystery and no one can properly decipher the origins of him and his brother Fujin. Raijin claims he was a resurrection inspirited by the Japanese god of thunder he shares his name with- inheriting many of his signature powers and skills and twisting them to suit his cocky but mighty and fearless demeanor.

Being without proper parental figures, the new incarnations of Raijin and Fujin took refuge in an old Japanese shrine with very few, if any, active visitors. The shrine has statues depicting the original Raijin and Fujin beside the front doors and explorers witnessing the existence of the two men bought into Raijin’s claims that they were resurrections- swelling into the brothers becoming famed and worshipped across Japan once they made public appearances. While Raijin basked in the fame he was receiving, Fujin was determined to unearth the legends of the gods they descended from and find the source to their incredible power.

Besides Fujin, Raijin has a personification of the Chinese protection deity Nezha as a close companion, bonding with him due to their similar youthful, outgoing and brash natures.

Personality[edit | edit source]

Raijin is arrogant, prideful, and self-centered. Even in his love for pulling pranks for his own amusement or ability to derail a conservation into a topic about himself or his accomplishments, he refuses to be declared an outright cruel person despite having no issue with causing accidental property damage in battles or when defending those he cares for.

Even through his flaws, Raijin tries to be a respectable figure even when he stops in the wake of his bloated ego and his name and identity being attached to a well-known cultural icon within his home region. His strong bond with his brother Fujin and companion Nezha helps keep his negative traits and his mischievous side from building up and showing through

Powers and Abilities[edit | edit source]

Raijin is a man with a large, powerful, and well-built physique armed with powerful thunder magic. He wields a large wooden drum converted into a hammer with several smaller drums made of electricity orbiting the hammer’s handle as his weapon of choice. When held by Raijin, the electricity infused into his arms transmits to the ends of the drum, emitting a ring of electricity on each end. A direct strike from a swim of the hammer sends part of the hammer’s voltage into - painfully shocking victims in addition to launching them with the weight and speed of the hammer’s swing.

The drum of the hammer can be laid down and played by hand, emulating a taiko drum’s beats. Depending on the rhythm made with the drum, Raijin can affect the weather surrounding him by forming thick storm clouds in the air and casting thunder down at intervals only he can determine.

Raijin possesses several miscellaneous skills used for traversal. His main method of transportation is running on small storm clouds that form under his feet on each step. The clouds carry his weight and can be created any distance above ground, giving Raijin the ability to spring hundreds of miles above solid ground. If Raijin uses his drums to cast thunder onto himself, he can perform his signature ability- the “Rolling Thunder”: curling up and gathering electrical charges to conceal himself in a spinning sphere of electricity. The Rolling Thunder can travel at high speeds, bowl into enemies, and bounce off solid surfaces, releasing shockwaves on each bounce.

Trivia[edit | edit source]
